Birds, Bees, Butterflies and Sunshine

I am blessed to live in a neighborhood with lots of old growth trees. They provide lovely shade in the hot summer months. Today I am enjoying the sunshine after what has felt like weeks and weeks of cold and rain. Looking out across the yards I am amazed at God’s palette of colors. From the blue-green of the pines to the bright green of the baby leaves on some of the trees, the variation of color is amazing. I am also enjoying the birds. The air is full of the  chirping and singing of all types of birds. I have watched baby birds land on the phone line as they gingerly begin to fly and adult birds as they hunt for insects in the grass. We also have a nest of baby birds nestled in the jasmine vines on the carport. Momma bird has been by to feed them and keep a careful watch on where I am. We have also be graced with a couple of butterflies and a couple of fat, buzzing bumble bees. Occasional the sound of the city, be it a siren, the train or a distant lawn mower interrupts the calm but soon it is back to the birds and the wind that stirs the gentle scent of the jasmine. My constant companion outside is Sadie who enjoys napping in the sun. Soon it will be time to start dinner but until then I think I will just sit back with another glass of tea..All and all I would say it is a pretty great day.

New Year, New Start

January 23, 2015

Our family started the Daniel Plan this past Tuesday. I should say most of us started it. My husband is not a happy camper.  He is not a willing participant in our endeavor, but her will get over it. Our whole family needs to adjust how we eat. Several years ago I began cutting out boxed meals and most all frozen meals. During the cleanse portion of the plan we are eliminating caffeine,  gluten and sugar. I am excited to see how this makes a difference in how I feel as well as how it affects my medical issues. Although I desperately need to lose weight, this journey is more on changing my eating lifestyle so I feel better.  This past week a couple of dishes we have made are Tuscan Chicken  and on another night Spicy Quinoa The recipes for these can be found on the Daniel Plan page of this website. Why I LOVE Ibotta !

I love, and I do mean LOVE, Ibotta. What is Ibotta, you ask? It is a wonderful app for my phone that I use after shopping to earn money back on purchases. I started using the app June 15, 2013, and by the end of the year I had earned $139.75 with very little effort. It is very simple to use. You simply download the app to your smartphone or android. Review the offers listed and complete the activities. Some of the activities are posting to Facebook or sending a tweet about a product. Both of these tasks are extremely simple to do once you like your Ibotta, Facebook and Twitter accounts.

November 26, 2013

I have spent most pf the day cooking. I made a wonderful cream of mushroom soup, cranberry bread and spicey snack crackers. I also did some prep work for tomorrow's cooking. The onions, celery and mushrooms have been sauteed in butter and are ready to add to the dressing mixture. Tonight I will boil a chicken to make some fresh chicken broth for the dressing and the gravy. I love this time of year and all the wonderful aromas that fill the kitchen. Tonight I have added the recipe for the Spicey Snack Crackers to the recipe section "Party Foods". I hope you enjoy it.

Welcome to A Slice of Life. I hope you will visit often. I love to cook and many of the recipes that I use are favorites from my past. Many of them make me remember special people or special times. Bear with me as I share some of those special memories with you. Thanksgiving is just a few days away and many of our favorite dishes are tied to memories of family gatherings and people that are no longer with us. Tomorrow I will beging cooking for Thanksgiving dinner. It is predicted to rain here in the metro Atlanta so a day in the kitche will be a wonderful thing.
